News, Vision & Voice for the Advisory Community

Raymond James recently announced the appointment of veteran complex manager Stephen B. Pryor as regional executive for the Alex. Brown office in Boston.

Pryor began his financial services career as a Merrill Lynch advisor trainee in 1991, in Tysons Corner, Va. He then spent two years as a financial advisor with Smith Barney and two more with Morgan Stanley before joining Prudential Securities in 1998, first as a trainee manager and then sales manager, regional development manager and, ultimately, as a branch manager in Carmel, Calif.

When Wachovia acquired Prudential, Pryor continued to serve in several roles: national director of Profit Formula, national director of recruiting and then in Richmond, Va. as complex manager.

In August 2006, Pryor returned to Merrill Lynch where, for the next seven years, he served as complex director, first in New York’s Manhattan East complex and then in Kansas City, Missouri, where he was recognized with the firm’s 2011 Complex Service Quality Award and appointed as a director of the Merrill Lynch National Advisory Council to Management. In 2013, he was recruited to RBC Wealth Management as the Portland, Maine, complex director where he oversaw six offices. Under his leadership the complex moved up from No. 28 to No. 7 on the firm’s scorecard ranking.

Pryor earned his BA in government from Wesleyan University and conducted graduate studies at Tulane University’s AB Freeman School of Business.

“The Northeast is an important expansion market for Raymond James and Alex. Brown,” said Pryor in a statement. “So I am excited to be part of this growth story. The unique combination of the 200-year-old Alex. Brown brand with the depth of resources and platform of Raymond James is really quite remarkable and already is grabbing people’s attention. As I start to share our firm’s vision, and all that we have to offer clients and advisors alike, I fully expect to grow the Alex. Brown name and office in Boston."

Pryor replaces former Boston Regional Executive, Frank McGrail, who has moved to the Alex. Brown office in lower Manhattan where he oversees the Central region for the Alex. Brown division of Raymond James. The Boston office of Alex. Brown currently includes 18 client advisors and 17 administrative associates, with approximately $4 billion in assets under management.
